Early childhood: David Hari Webber Chappelle was arrested on the 24th. Born August 1973 in Washington, D.C. His parents, Yvonne Chappelle Jr. and William David Chappelle III, were teachers. This was a turning point in his popularity and he became a regular guest on the late night track at shows like the Late Night Show with David Letterman, the Howard Stern Show and the Late Night Show with Conan O’Brien. At the age of 19 he made his debut with a comedy play for Aretha Franklin.

Chappelle made his film debut in 1993 at the age of twenty in Mel Brook’s comedy Robin Hood: Men in tights. Chappelle continued to play other film roles (including a small role in the feature film Eddie Murphy Crazy Professor in 1996 and the lead role in the film Half-Baked in 1998) and tried several TV pilots unsuccessfully before launching his own Show Chappelle series on Central Comedy in 2003. The series was very popular and lasted two successful seasons. She was nominated for two Emmy Awards before Chappelle suddenly left during the recordings of the third season, although Comedy Central subsequently released episodes written without him. Chappelle cited as a reason for his departure that he didn’t like the direction the show was going, that he was overworked by a 20-hour workday and didn’t have time to pursue a career in fundraising. Leaving the show meant cancelling a $50 million contract with Comedy Central.

In 2004 Michelle Gondry made a documentary about a rap concert organised by Chappelle in Bedford Styvesant, Brooklyn, which was accompanied by a series of rap and hip-hop performances, including the Fugees’ reunion.

Continued successes and rewards: Chappelle continues to reap the benefits of his long and sometimes difficult career. In 2018 he won a Grammy Award for Best Comedy Album for the first two Netflix specials: An era of rotation and depth in the heart of Texas. His special edition Equiniti also received the Grammy Award and the Emmy Award for Outstanding Pop. In 2020 he was awarded a Grammy for Sticks and Rocks for the third consecutive year.

Dave returned to the film world when he played with Bradley Cooper in The Star is Born as his best friend Noodles. The film was a great success and received many prestigious nominations and awards. John Stewart and Chappelle worked together on the duo’s comedy tour in 2018, and he appeared with Aziz Ansari in three stand-up shows in Austin, Texas. In 2019 he received the annual Mark Twain Award for American Humor from the Kennedy Center.

Personal life: Chappelle has been married since 2001 to Elaine Mendoza Herf. They have three children, the sons Suleiman and Ibrahim and the daughter Sanaa. The family lives on a 65-acre farm near Yellow Springs, Ohio. Chappelle also owns several houses in Xenia, Ohio.

Dave converted to Islam in 1998. He supported Andrew Young in the presidential elections of 2020. Dave sacrifices his time for the Seeds of Peace International Camp in Maine. The organization brings together young leaders from conflict communities. He organized the Gem City Shine charity concert in August 2019 in Dayton, Ohio, with a number of artists including Stevie Wonder and Chance the Rapper. The charity concert was held in honor of a shooting victim on August 4, 2019 in Dayton and raised nearly $70,000 to fund a tragedy in Oregon province.
