Grupo Cañaveral is a Spanish pop-rock band founded in 1978. The band’s name means “Bay Area” in Spanish. The group has released 16 albums and have had several hit songs, including the ones below:

The Furia Musical award-winning Grupo Caaveral was founded in January 1995 by vocalist/percussionist Humberto Pabón Olivares, ex-Corraleros de Majagual, and journalist/radio announcer Agustn Teutli Delgado, with the goal of reviving the then-dormant Mexican cumbia style. They not only achieved their objective in the early years, but they also developed cumbia into forward-thinking music of their own hybrid creation.

Grupo Caaveral achieved three gold records before their third anniversary in 1998, making them a top-selling act. (They’ve also earned double gold and diamond certification for other records after then.)

Grupo Caaveral became one of Mexico’s most difficult traveling bands. They not only performed in their own nation and the southwestern United States, but also toured the rest of Latin America, headlining venues and festivals. Their continuing success allowed them to feature in Mexican soap operas. The band had a part in Laura Flores and Fernando Carrillo’s film Siempre Te Amare, and they subsequently featured in Maria de Todos Los Angeles. Emir Pabón, Humberto’s son, contributes lead vocals and drums to the band; he’s previously worked with Giant Sonora, Wilfrido Vargas, and Grupo Mayor. Dairon Pabon, another son, plays the tambor alegre.

No Mientas Mas Grupo Caaveral continued to take blows. No Mientas Mas from 2002, No Te Voy a Perdonar from 2005, and Flor de Mayo from 2009 all charted. Hui Pi Pi… started a new chapter in 2010, with Emir at the helm, and was the band’s greatest success since the 1990s. The band renamed themselves Grupo Caaveral de Pabon after numerous personnel changes in 2011. This rendition was released in 2014 on the album Juntos por la Cumbia, as well as a live CD. Fiesta Total, released in 2017, included collaborations with Los Tucanes de Tijuana, Los Claxons, Belinda, Valentino, Lucero, and Matute on various interpretations of the band’s songs as well as cumbia versions of their guests’ tunes.
