Miguel Angel Felix Gallardo (8 January 1946) was born in Culiacana, Mexico. A drug trafficker known as a boss or sponsor. Gallardo was one of Mexico’s biggest drug dealers. Allied drug traffickers Gonzalo Rodríguez Gacha and Ramon Matt Ballesteros developed the drug industry in Mexico by shipping drugs from Colombia to the United States. Before he became one of the biggest drug traffickers of the 20th century. When Gallardo became a policeman in Sinaloa at the end of the 19th century, he served as a bodyguard for the family of the then governor, Leopoldo Sanchez Chelis, with whom he had a close relationship. Later he was paired with Pedro Aviles Perez, known as Leo Sierra. After his death, Felix led the Guadalajara cartel with Rafael Caro Quintero and Ernesto Fonseca Carrillo.

Early years

He was born into a middle-class family and grew up in the suburbs of Culiacán. After completing his basic training, he began a business career that he had not known since he decided to focus on a career in the police. After taking office, he joined the Sinaloa Criminal Investigation Department. After some time, he was given the task of defending the House of Public Administration – a task in which he succeeded thanks to his skills and talent.

After some time, Felix Gallardo received the trust and support of the then head of state, Leopoldo Sanchez Celis, who hired him to protect his family. The relationship between Sanchez and Felix Gallardo became so strong over time that Sanchez was a godfather at the wedding of Felix and Maria Elvira Murillo, and Felix and his wife were godfathers at the wedding of Governor Rodolfo Sanchez’s son to Theolenda Lopez Urrutia.

Gallardo and Don Pedro

In his time as a family member, he was recruited by Pedro Aviles Perez, known as Leo Sierra or Don Pedro, who hoped that Felix Gallardo would be his contact with the political class of Sinaloa, a role he would play for several years. At the time, Don Pedro was one of the leading figures in the drug trade, linked to the Italian-American mafia, which transported heroin and marijuana to the United States. In the late 1970s, under pressure from the U.S. government and competition for the drug market, Aviles began relocating its operations center to Guadalajara. However, for his installation in Guadalajara it was on the 15th. September 1978, taking advantage of the fact that everything has been prepared in Guadalajara. Felix Gallardo founded the Guadalajara cartel with Caro Quintero and Fonseca.

Guadalajara cartel

After his death, Aviles Gallardo ran his business in Guadalajara, accompanied by Ernesto Fonsec Carrillo (Don Neto) and Rafael Caro Quintero (Narco de Narcos), as well as Manuel Salcido Uzueta (Crazy Pig), Juan José Quintero Payan (Don Juanho), Pablo Acosta Villarreal (El Zorro de Ohinaga) and Juan José Esparragos Moreno (El Azul) ; The collaboration with them marked the beginning of a new phase in Gallardo’s pharmaceutical activities in Mexico.

In his early years as boss Felix, he developed the Aviles network, which at the time made a deal with the Honduran drug trafficker Juan Ramon Matta Ballesteros, who shortly afterwards linked the cartel with the Colombian drug trafficker Gonzalo Rodriguez Gacha, known as Mexican, because of his love for tequila and mariachi. At that time Gacha had lost his ties with Alberto Sicily Falcon in Mexico, which the police had taught him at the end of the seventies. After the loss of contact, Gacha Felix visited his residence in Altatai, where the two men had signed an agreement on drug trafficking from Colombia. Since then, the Guadalajara cartel has been responsible for transporting the wasted drugs to the United States, with treatment routes connecting Mexico to a neighboring country. At that time, Felix also learned how Colombian cartels transported drugs in small planes.

The pact with Gacha consolidated the cartel, which expanded its activities and significantly increased its profits compared to the Medellin cartel. In the years that followed, Felix Gallardo’s business continued to grow, which was clear to the American agency DEA, which had several agents in Mexico who closely followed the cartel’s movements, particularly the boss, who was added to the agency’s archives in 1979. In the eighties Felix Gallardo was one of the most wanted men, without being prosecuted, because he settled in Mexico without any problems. He appears at parties and events as a famous businessman who owns many restaurants and clubs.

Operating sponsor

In 1982, the DEA conducted Operation Padrino in an attempt to capture members of the Guadalajara cartel. The first to be attacked was Ernesto Caro Quintero, who seized 8,500 tons of marijuana he had found on his farm in Buffalo. The operation was led by Agent Enrique Kiki Kamarena, who was killed shortly afterwards along with retired officer Alfredo Zavala Avelar. His death was directed against the cartel, which has been continuously prosecuted ever since.

Three years after the start of the company, board members Caro Quintero (April 4, 1985) and Ernesto Fonseca (April 7, 1985) were captured. In April 1989, the leader, Felix Gallardo, was captured. After his arrest, he spent more than two decades in an unconvicted prison, which was established in 2017. This year he was sentenced to 37 years in prison, a sentence he is serving at Pointe Grande.

The life of this drug dealer was shown in Netflix Narcos: Mexican series, a continuation of the first part of the series, which deals in greater depth with the issue of the Colombian cartels. The role of Felix Gallardo is played by the famous actor Diego Luna. In addition to thirteen episodes, the series tells the story of the Guadalajara cartel, a pioneer in the transportation of large quantities of drugs from Colombia to the United States. This character has inspired several drug runs, such as the song End of the World and Felix Gallardo de Los Tiger del Norte.
