Lee Kun-hee was the richest man in South Korea from 2007 until his death in 2020. He was a leading businessman in South Korea who was chairman of the Samsung Group.
He was the third son of Lee Byung-chul, the founder of Samsung. He played a fairly important role in Samsung’s transformation into the world’s largest manufacturer of smartphones, TVs and chips.
He was also a member of the International Olympic Committee. At the time of his death, his net worth was estimated at $21 billion.

Lee Kun-hee was born on the 9th. Born in Daegu in January 1942. He was the third child of Lee Byung-chul, the founder of the Samsung Group. He graduated with a degree in economics from Waseda University in Japan. To earn another master’s degree in economics, he enrolled at George Washington University in Washington, D.C., but didn’t graduate.
Lee Kun Hee was married to Hong Ra Hee. The two men had four children, a son and three daughters. Lee Jae Young was his only son and Lee Bu Jin, Lee Se Hyun and Lee Yoon Hyun were his three daughters.

Working life, man
Lee Kun-hee joined Samsung in 1966 and then worked for the Samsung Trading and Construction Company. He received the presidency on the 24th. December 1987, two weeks after his father’s death.
He is also known as the real builder of the current Samsung Group. He strongly believed that Samsung produced a large number of inferior products, which could not compete with the quality products on the market. Therefore, the company’s approach to quality has been changed in line with the Frankfurt Declaration.
This new change has produced many positive results and in 2006 the company became the largest producer of television victories for Sony Corporation.
At the time of his death, the company was worth $300 billion.
In 2014, Lee was ranked by Forbes as the 35th most influential person in the world, along with his son.

Lee’s professional career is full of controversy. He was convicted twice, in 1996 and 2008, of corruption and tax evasion, but was pardoned in both cases.
Lee’s older brother and sister sued him in 2012, asking a South Korean court to grant them shares in the Samsung companies worth a total of $850 million that their father would have given them. This request was rejected by the court in 2014.
Lee Kun-hee suffered from lung cancer, which was treated in the late 1990s. In 2005, he underwent a new cancer screening test at the MD Anderson Medical Center in Houston, Texas.
After a massive heart attack in 2014, he was hospitalized and fell into a coma. He stays there until his death on the 25th. October 2020 in a coma at the age of 78.
